  Ohio Chapter Minimize
On April 15, 2009, the Ohio Chapter joined forces with IHM in New York to help in the activities already started and new activities envisioned to benefit missionaries in Ghana, West Africa. The main interest of the Ohio Chapter is to add more buildings to the Adekyee (A-dē-chee) School in Jasikan, and to equip them with the necessities of running a school--utilities, busses, boarding facilities, sponsorship, computer lab, etc. At present, there is space for one class for kindergarten and 1st grade, and two for Junior High. More buildings are needed as these children move to the next level. The school is the first Catholic elementary and junior high school in this very rural and poor area. Many families have indicated they would like to send their children to school there, but there is no room for them.

Several of us have visited this area on two occasions and have seen first-hand the nearly below human levels of poverty. We have also seen an eagerness in the people to improve their lives by a desire to educate the children and themselves to attain a better standard of living and to see themselves as a valuable asset to the community. The Catholic Diocese of Jasikan is working diligently to attain this goal and our passion is to help them in any way.

St Margarets comes to the rescue to the villagers of Atikpui! Minimize

"I was Thirsty and You Gave Me a Drink" (Matt.25:35)

Village of Atikpui in Ghana

The Villagers of Atikpui in Ghana Africa, currently get their water from this dirty stream. Many of the people and children of this village suffer diseases from the outcome of drinking, washing and cooking with this water. IHM is proud to announce that the students St Margarets Catholic School and the CCD program at the school in Middle Village New York are raising funds for a bore hole for this village. There are over 3000 villagers that depend on this dirty stream for water. We will keep you updated about their sacrifices and success!

Above is the stream in Atikpui for water. Below are some of the children from the village.

Some new use for some older vans!

Recently one of our donors donated two ford vans. We shipped the vans to Ghana to be converted into school busses because of the desperate need  of school busses to pick up children that have to walk many miles to school and return home. Below is the results  see before and after pictures... I can only say that the parents and the children were beyond happy once they were told the great news and finally saw the busses pull up to pick up thier children for school!

The best part it was very inexpensive for the conversion only $1500.00 each van for repairs, seats and new paint. Each newly converted van can seat 22 children each! On an average day they make 2 trips each way picking up students.

            Before!                                                                          After!

And now in use in Ghana!

New Housing for the teachers and help at the FDMTS Minimize

Above are photos of the students building the staff living quarters at the

FDMTS. All of the materials were supplied by IHM and a donor in Long Island NY by the name of Lewis Ranieri. Lewis has done some wonderful work in supplying much needed tools and other equiptment for the students at the school which enabled them to now do a project from start to finish. The above housing unit will house 2 families and their children that live on the school property and also work at the school fulltime.

This project only costs about $18,000.00 U.S to build this unit from start to finish.
